I have been playing guitar for many years, though I've only just started working playing publicly in the Syracuse area in the fall of 2021.
I was at lunch with some friends at The Hops Spot on Walton Avenue one day in 2018 or 2019, and watching my friend Jess Novak perform a solo acoustic gig. I was commenting to my friends about how awesome all of her various gear was, her speaker system, looper pedals, etc., and she heard me and asked me if I wanted to play a song. She didn't even know me but was kind enough to give me a chance to play.
I ripped through a bit of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" and got the bug.
At that point I started playing local open mic nights at Maxwell's, and Shifty's, and places like that, but it was a tough thing to share with my friends - I'd play on a Wednesday, and be like fourth on a list and not get to play until after 9 or 10 PM.
So when Covid hit I reached out to Jess to get some specific info on gear, and got what I needed, and after a summer of practice gigs in my garage and driveway I started playing gigs in the fall of 2021.
